The Fermi Paradox is a question asking “Where are the aliens?” It states that if the universe has been around for billions of years, why have we not seen or heard signs from other bodily beings? We should have heard from other forms of life elsewhere in the galaxy, local supercluster, or even the entire universe. There are trillions and trillions of stars with planets orbiting each and every one. The Milky Way is around 13,000,000,000 years old. In any amount of time since the Milky Way was “born”, there could have been other lively planets that could have somehow communicated with us. Could we be the first form of life in the entire observable universe? Could we be the last known life? Could we be the only life that will ever exist? We could never know, but only time will tell. Here the video that gave me the inspiration to write this report; The Fermi Paradox.Let’s use Ross 128 b as an example planet that we would try to somehow communicate with one day. This planet is only 4.2 light years away. There are approximately 9.7 trillion kilometers in a light year. Let’s use the New Horizons spacecraft as an example for delivering a message. This spacecraft travels 58,536 kilometers an hour. Doing some calculations, it will take 5,980,456,621,004 years to reach Ross 128 b. Traveling at the speed of light, reaching the planet would take 3,255,014 days, or 8,917 years. If the “aliens” were able to communicate, we could have heard something, or gotten a signal from them centuries ago. Maybe the planet doesn’t have enough technology to know anything about space or even be able to communicate, or the planet is still in its early stages, where the only life there is only just forming, or there isn’t any life on Ross 128 b. Seeing another form of life in person would be one the greatest achievements humans could accomplish. Traveling to Ross 128 b would be most likely impossible, it could happen in the very far future. Scientists are working on cryogenic chambers humans could go into and come out of to be able to make the longest journey they will ever have. The humans will go in the chambers, they will freeze their inner core and will have a death like slumber. Before take off to the new planet, somebody would set a timer and that timer will wake them up when they arrive at the planet if it is set to that time. Another thing that would need to happen would being able to have a spacecraft or rocket fast enough to get to the planet in the shortest time possible, so the humans can still be healthy in the chambers without freezing to death or having other complications. The ship or rocket would have to be big enough to fit everyone that is going and be able to support life if they wake up before they are at the planet. The creator of the Fermi Paradox, Enrico Fermi, was thinking at lunch one day he realized, if the universe is 92,000,000,000 light years across, and is 13,820,000,000 years old, other galaxies would have had plenty of time to colonize almost the entire universe.It would only take around 10,000,000 years to colonize everything, which is not a long time. 1 out of every 5 sun-like stars we find have at least 1 earth-like planet that is in the sun’s habitable zone. That planet would likely have water, but the atmosphere would be another factor to supporting life. If the planet has water and a stable atmosphere, it could likely support a small life, like a few bacteria, or a huge organism, like humans.The Drake Equation is an argument that needs to find out how many planets with life communicate with each other. Fi = The fraction of life bearing planets on which intelligent life emerges. Fc = The fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space.
