The Iran as a tourism destination. In

The study represents an attempt to examine the impact of perceived
psychic distances on Dutch people when deciding to tour Iran as a tourism
destination. According to the secondary researches and data acquired from
quantitative research method using the
questionnaires,
tourists perceive a higher psychic distance of
destination when there is less proximity between them and the destination. In
fact, if the perceived proximity between a tourism destination and the home
country of tourists becomes more, the tourists construe the destination at a
lower level. Literally,
tourists who perceive more similarities between their home countries and the
tourism destination feel more comfortable in visiting that place. However, when
there are more differences between the home country and the tourism
destination, tourists have less tendency to travel to that destination. The
study reveals that infrastructure, cultural and legal dimensions have a
moderating effect on the relationship between the perceived psychic distance of
Dutch people and their destination choice. According to the analysis, it can be
concluded that Dutch people perceive high psychic distance in regard to Iran as a tourism
destination. In fact, the differences in infrastructure, cultural and legal
dimensions between two countries play an important role in the perception of
Dutch people for Iran. From the infrastructure perspective, the
differences in the safety level, accommodation and transportation, development
of tourism, and the level of hospitality and service are considered as deterrent factors by Dutch people. In
addition, Dutch tourists perceive high cultural distances due to the
differences in
the religious beliefs, traditions and rituals, and cultural symbols between
their home country and Iran. The differences in foreign policy, legal systems
and the citizens’ behavioral degree
of freedom are the other inhibitor factors that significantly impact on Dutch
decision making process to travel to Iran. Moreover, the great importance of the level of safety, accommodation and
transportation, development of tourism services, level of hospitality and
services, religious beliefs, traditions and rituals, cultural symbols, foreign
policies, legal systems, and citizens’ behavioral degree of freedom for Dutch people are considered as a robust
barrier in their decision making process. As a result, it should be stated that
Dutch people perceive a high psychic distance in regard with Iran and this can negatively impact on their
decision- making to travel to Iran.
