I on their preferred medicine, whilst also

I have a curiosity
about the practise of diagnosis, analysing and discovering the right treatments
that are appropriate. I am interested to do a degree in Biomedical Science which
will give me an opportunity to discover and gain higher knowledge in my understanding
of human biology and medicine. I have always had a keen interest in biology,
chemistry and physics in secondary school. Having a biomedical degree will help
me to improve my skills that are needed in the industry, such as data
examination, and skills working in a laboratory.

Currently the subjects
that I am studying are Business Studies, Extended Project Qualification,
Applied Science and Health and Social (BTEC), which compliments my course as it
helps me gain the knowledge of how to organise and work hard in teams. Applied
Science, which is hundred percent coursework includes multiple aspects of
science and allows me to work in a laboratory environment. Recently, I had to do an experiment
which was to look in to the light microscope and identify the Erythrocytes and
the Leucocytes; and I had to draw them.  Doing
this course has helped me to be analytical, proactive, develop hypothesis and
punctual with my deadlines. Health and Social will complement biomedical as it
allows me to learn about people and managing health problems. For my EPQ, I am
researching about how the general public view traditional medicine over
alternative therapy. This research will allow me to gather people’s opinion on
their preferred medicine, whilst also helping me to gather evidence to support
my hypothesis. This project will also be relevant to my university course. This
course will allow me to develop skills like time management, research skills
and essay writing. Linking to my EPQ I have applied to do ‘Medicine programme’
in Lister Hospital enable me to have important person to person conversation
with the patients and shadow medical professionals at work. Also, I will be doing
questionnaire to develop my knowledge about my EPQ project.

I have completed work
experience in my father’s business and this has allowed me to gain the skills
of patience, resilience and multi- tasking.  Working in the takeaway business has given me the
confidence and the courage to develop communication skills and develop self-assurance.

I did work experience in year 10 which showed me insight of the banking world; I
was there to observe their daily approach to the customer service to solving
problems and resolve any issues. In school I have been monitoring younger years
in a team to help them improve their behaviour report and help them with their
daily reading. This allowed me to develop patience and improve team working
skills. Also, helping in lunch clubs with people who have problems in speaking
English, as I am able to speak more than one language it gives me chance to
help others: I can speak Urdu and Punjabi. I am planning to do practical
experience in GlaxoSmithKline to get an understanding into the working world,
as there will be sessions where I will get to meet and hear from the people
that work in the industry.

In my spare time, I
like to cook different cuisines. Cooking for me is like therapy from a
stressful day or week. I like to take long walks whilst listening to
instrumental music. One of my interests is to do water colour painting this
allows me to reflect.  I am an extremely
organized individual with a great attitude and have a keen interest to learn. I
am highly motivated and determined to succeed in everything that I do.

I have been gaining
the skills that are needed for the Biomedical course throughout my work
experience and also my academic work. The skills that I have gained means that
I can be more enthusiastic, strongminded and resilient in my biomedical science
course.
