“Confucius is never described as praying to them, given his time it is remarkable, most of the
people of his day would believe in the power of the gods, the spirits, and ancestors; they lived ina world saturated with supernatural.” (Confucius & Confucianism the Essentials Lee Dian Rainey 2010, 58)Many people of that time link the powers of supernaturals to illness and to the reason why there are droughts. Virtually everything. Because of that, you can see that Confucius was very much areader of what is happening right now with your life rather than looking beyond. There are three main philosophy/religions in China and they are calledThe Three  teachings these teaching’s include: Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism due to the Chinesecitizen’s freedom of religious belief it raises the question that Daoism and Buddhism are listed, why not Confucianism? Confucianism is considered “unity of the three teachings” It gradually makes Confucianism the broader term for being one of the main avenues associated with Chineseculture. After the Opium War of 1840 it changes the course of Chinese history, it changed theeastern lifestyle, by it being introduced to the western culture.”With the ever-expanding Western influence into various aspects of Chinese society—politics,
economy, religion, education, mass media, cultural affairs, social life, and so on—the discourseof Orientalism had gained increasingly more acceptance and authority in China. Chinesetradition as a whole underwent a reexamination and redefinition through the lens ofOrientalism.” (Why is Confucianism not a Religion? The Impact of Orientalism 2017, 2). Many Westerners view the “Three Teachings” in Chinese culture not a religion at all, in fact, thedefinition of religion was introduced and imported to China from the European tradition ofParks 4
Christianity, and many people stated that China simply did not have a religion. Later on, Theythen put Christianity as the highest form or essence of religion, through this they recognized the”Three Teachings” Daoism and Buddhism were saw ought out as “institutionalized religions”which give certain aspects of Christianity and they were accepted as religions. While asConfucianism is shown as a noninstitutionalized religion because of it being uniquely differentwith certain views and aspects compared to Christianity, it was not accepted as a religion.Through all of this, its one opinion to choose whether it is a Philosophy or a Religion, you do not need a standard of approval from the Chinese government giving you the freedom topractice it as a religion. We question the definition of religion to the fact of acceptance in societythrough beliefs and practices “One person’s religion is another one’s superstition” My personal
opinion is that it should be a ‘Ritualized Philosophy’ with only two of the “Three Teachings”
being a religion off the basis of Christianity. When evidence to Christianity is abstract “Proverbs
11:27 He who diligently seeks good seeks favor, But he who seeks evil, evil will come to him.”
